For a company, one of the most successful ways to gain the upper hand on a competitor is to change the rules of the game in such a way that the competitor would need to abandon or destroy its core business in order to lay chase to your strategy. This thinking, which was chronicled in Clay Christiansen’s The Innovator’s Dilemma, is the key premise behind the success of Google. Google’s giving away products or services for Free was the first step towards implementing their competitor outsmarting strategy. A Plan B

2009 was the year that taught me the importance of having a Plan B in career.  A Plan B which can be summarized this way: the best you can make of a worst-case scenario, the deal you cut with a fate you might be unable to avoid. “Plan B” is your back-up plan. It is what you are going to do, in case your first choice for a career path doesn’t work out the way you had expected. Mobile Augmented Reality

Augmented reality, which uses your smartphone as a window to display “enhancements” to the world through its camera, is pretty hot right now. You can use it with Google Goggles to Google the world, or use it with Yelp to find the nearest restaurants.  In 2009, there was an explosion of interest  in bringing augmented reality applications and browsers to mobile devices with GPS, cameras and compasses. Mobile AR can create a new level of mobile interactivity in gaming, travel, retail, social networking and education applications. Read more…
